Outside of the ring there are whispers that an almighty battle is about to commence. During a recent visit to Rio de Janeiro, Ronda Rousey tore apart Cris Cyborg in front of the Brazilian media. Rousey’s tirade covered a wide range of topics, including Cyrborg’s departure from the UFC to avoid random drug testing, her technical inabilities, and unimpressive performances on the mat. The nasty remarks have forced Cyborg to swing back at the UFC bantamweight champ.
Tongues got nasty when Rousey criticized Cyborg’s techniques, calling them “horrendous” and stating “the way that she is on the ground, it’s absolutely horrendous. And her distance is absolute horrendous. The only thing that she has is pace and power and I have pace, precision and power.” Rousey then went on to announce that the Invicta FC featherweight champion takes steroids because “she lacks self-confidence.”
The war of words began after the announcement Cyborg tested positive for stanozolol during a mandated drug test. However, Cyborg smashed back, asserting that Rousey was simply jealous of her fighting performances.
Rousey proclaimed that she was open to a fight but that Cyborg asked to be released from the UFC 24 hours after the announcement of out-of-competition drug testing.
"I've said before, I don't care if she's injecting horse semen into her eyeballs, I'll fight her, but that's just my personal decision, I can't make a decision for the whole division. I can't say it's the right thing. This girl has been on steroids for so long and [has been] injecting herself for so long that she's not even a woman anymore. She's an 'it.' It's not good for the women's division. It's not good at all.”
Cyborg lashed back at Rousey, convinced that the whole battle has been instigated purely for publicity and jealousy of the attention the non-UFC fighter receives from the media and fans.
"What she says means nothing to me; a person is visiting my country and trying to defame me to my fans in order to get attention shows you how uneducated she is. She’s a low-level person. She feels she has to step on someone in order to rise."
Cyborg also added:
"It’s funny she says I dishonoured the sport and my country, but everybody wants to see me fight her. That might frustrate her," she said. "If you think about it, there are only a handful of people that have never fought in the UFC and are known worldwide. I’m proud to know that I never needed an event to promote me, and I never had to lie about anyone. I’m known worldwide for my talent and my team, Chute Boxe."
Cyborg has spoken that she is unsure as to whether a fight between the two would ever take place, "As always, Rousey is trying to pick her next opponent. She is running away from me and asking to fight Bethe Correia[… ] If she was so sure about everything, she would have already accepted to fight me like she accepted to fight Gina Carano.”
It’s unsure as to whether the fight in the ring will ever become a reality, but a catfight out of the ring is more than likely.
Why is this girl always starting shit?
